What is Acrylic?
Acrylic is a plastic also known as Plexiglas. This is a trade name.
Can be clear or non-glare.
Acrylic is manufactured by extrusion or cast.
Cast acrylic is a higher quality than extruded and cost is much higher.
Acrylic sheets, as a rule, supplied with a thin removable film or paper on both sides for protection.
Why Acrylic?
Lightweight compare to glass, 50%-80% lighter.
Up to 10 times stronger and more shatter resistant than glass
Acrylic is a usual replacement for large art works.
Light permeability is above 90% vs. 80% for glass
Easy and safe to ship and hang large art works
Acrylic has some disadvantages:
Thicker Acrylic is more expensive than glass
Easy to scratch if not used properly
Not as easy to clean as glass
